Triple Vagal Method

TVM, Triple Vagal Method is a somatic healing therapy that works with the body's natural intelligence to heal. This therapy is a hands-on therapy that works with the nervous system to achieve regulation and resilience. The Triple Vagal Method aims to heal trauma by releasing it from the body while increasing Vagal tone, to complete the trauma cycle to heal dysregulation and disassociation, and to restore a sense of safety in the body. When we have an emotion we have blocked or not fully processed, this can be stored in the fascia system and the nervous system. Sometimes these charges can get trapped in the body, causing us to disassociate from that part, or it can be painful to access that part that is held in the body. Somatic therapy works to complete these emotional charges and move them through and out of the body.

The Art of Rest

Much of value has been written about sleep, but rest is different; it is how we unwind, calm our minds and recharge our bodies. The Art of Rest draws on ground-breaking research Claudia Hammond collaborated on: 'The Rest Test', the largest global survey into rest ever undertaken, completed by 18,000 people across 135 different countries. The survey revealed how people get rest and how it is directly linked to your sense of wellbeing.

Counting down through the top ten activities which people find most restful, Hammond explains why rest matters, examines the science behind the results to establish what really works and offers a roadmap for a new, more restful and balanced life.

Psychotherapy with K. Nicole Oliver, MSW, RSW, MA - registration #13940

Nicole is a Master Level, Registered Social Worker who provides individual psychotherapy with adults. She has over 15-years of clinical experience working in healthcare and mental healthcare settings in both public and private practice.

Nicole understands from the mental health perspective, that sometimes barriers to sinking into nourishing rest are rooted in complex trauma experiences, intergenerational trauma, and developmental attachment injuries. There may be times in one’s life where there was not enough safety to rest and not enough support in one’s family system, nor environment to find ease in one’s body and nervous system to slow down and yield. Trauma and lack of safe secure relationships, can create a living legacy of activation within. When one’s developing autonomic nervous system did not receive enough safety, caregiver attuenment, the nervous system can become habituated to protective states of fight/flight/freeze and or collapse. Traumatized parts of oneself may have learned that resting means they are lazy/bad, that they do not deserve rest, are not worthy of rest, can only rest if they have earned rest through accomplishment, and or bad things happen when resting. Thus, the missing experiences of not enough safety and not enough support living in both the nervous system and our attachment systems can make it very challenging in the here and now, long after the dangers of the past have ended, to take in the nourishment of rest in the present. Feeling safe enough, supported enough to rest in the here and now are both somatic and relational resources that can be developed in somatic psychotherapy informed by polyvagal and attachment theory.

Nicole has completed Sensorimotor Psychotherapy level 2 training, Dr. Janina Fisher’s Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment (TSIT) Level 1, and Mindfulness Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training. Nicole mostly practices from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and TIST, which are a somatic (body) based modalities. In the early treatment we will develop both somatic and relational resources for improved nervous system modulation and to nurture improved felt inner safety. This paves the way for trauma reprocessing with somatic sequencing, reinstating defensive responses to support resolution of incomplete stress cycles held in the body and learning new options available now. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy also includes parts-work, including working with protector parts, befriending adaptive strategies, and child parts work integration.
